The elevated Esplanade next to the tracks at Long Bridge Park is an excellent place to relax and enjoy the evening parade of nearly two dozen VRE and Amtrak trains, plus any CSX freight trains that go by. Bring your camera, scanner and a picnic if you’d like and a folding chair—and come whenever you can, leave early if you must. Long Bridge Park is located at 475 Long Bridge Drive in Arlington VA. There is pay parking (free after 5PM) at the park. The south end of the Esplanade can also be accessed by walking from the Crystal City Metro and VRE stations, about a half mile, ten minute walk. If you are not already a member of DCNRHS, we encourage you to consider joining by making a donation in any amount (membership information on how to join may also be found on the DCNRHS web page) at www.dcnrhs.org.
